Dear Quantum Fam. 

After a great deal of deliberation, I have had to take the difficult decision to step down from Quantum as CTO and co-founder.

These last 18 months have had some ups and downs along with the market sentiment, but on the whole have been a lot of fun. I have enjoyed working with the team, and my engineering team in particular have shown an immense capability for delivering cutting edge products, most notably seen with last years' QSLA IRL credit-card minting tech.. a world first that sadly was under acknowledged.

Recent extra-curricular interests have taken me in a much more tech focussed direction that is now incompatible with Quantum's desire to just sell photography. The Web3 space is alive and buzzing, and I have put off for far too long other ideas and interests that, as a typical tech nerd, I have developed in my own time. 

Upon laying off half of the team over the last month or so, I had hoped that Quantum could find its feet again, and hopefully with our new curation team, and narrow focus on curated art only, this might still be the case. I still believe that Quantum could have a bright future under the correct leadership.

The Quantum Studio platform has been live for a few weeks and during that time, we have thoroughly tested it and received valuable feedback from artists.

During this time, we have learned that matching the right tools and resources to the right artists is crucial for success. To ensure that artists and their work are fully supported, we have decided to adopt a more curated approach moving forward, which includes slowing down the number of drops.
By utilizing the range of drop models and tools available via Studio, we will be providing a selective platform, which will offer personalized support and guidance to artists.

Our curation team will carefully review all artists on our waitlist and collaborate with chosen artists to assist them with their launch. This entails uploading their drops by our team and offering comprehensive marketing assistance to tell their story. As a result, the platform will not be opened up as a self-service marketplace.

Quantum’s vision is to be the leading platform for emerging and established photography and fine arts. We believe that by adopting this approach, we can support and achieve this vision while ensuring our artists get the best experience possible.

Quantum Space LA 
We opened our doors in June of 2022 and since then, we've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't work. Unfortunately one of our biggest learnings is that a majority of our keyholders reside outside of LA. Some hoped for additional locations outside of LA and others purchased to speculate on our success. 

However, in the current state of the market, renting the space and running it in a high traffic area with little IRL participation has become costly to the business. This means that we are unfortunately communicating the closure of QSLA at the end of January. 

This does not mean an end to keyholder benefits. Instead, we hope to refocus our efforts to where our keyholders are. Our priorities this year will focus on more drops and pop up events wherever Quantum travels to. 

Quantum Keyholders
Whilst the news to close QSLA will be disappointing, there are a number of things happening and lined up for keyholders. 

Please be assured that we're not giving up on keyholders, but we're looking to deliver value in more useful ways, our priorities this year will focus on more drops and pop up events wherever Quantum travels to.

Quantum 2023 Updates

Hello @everyone Quantum Community! 

As we start 2023, I wanted to share with you what Quantum has planned for this year, our vision, our focus, and what we have lined up so far.
 
It's been just over a year since Quantum launched, and we have had incredible support from both collectors and artists.
 
Our new projects, Quantum Studio and Quasars, have been fantastic developments, however Quantum's heart lies in providing a platform for artists to share their work. Keeping this in mind, I would like to share a few updates with you.

Firstly, a little on our planned direction, Quantum is going to be working towards a vision of being seen as ‘the’ photography brand in the NFT market. Photography, and digital art derived from photos or collages that are lens-based will be our main areas of focus. 
 
In addition to curating and working with some of the best artists out there, we also intend to identify and support lesser-known artists in order for them to find their place in the NFT marketplace.

Quantum Studio
Our platform is well underway and the first drops are on January 16th! We have some fantastic artists lined up and are excited to launch with them. 

As we look to roll out wider access, we will be putting in place an approach for formal submission of work by artists for consideration to be included on the platform. More to follow on this! 

Quasars
We have decided to split Quasars out from Quantum to sit as its own operation and team, with Quantum as a stakeholder in this. In line with Quantum's planned direction, this allows the Quasars project to move forward as needed and reach the audiences that will engage the most with it.

So you will soon see Quasars move out of our Discord into its own server. 

To be clear, promises made regarding free mint for Keyholders, allow lists etc will still stand and further details will follow nearer the mint.

*Spiritually Fashionable* brings the couture of Egúngún a fancifully masked figure at the heart of the traditional religion and culture of the Yorùbá people of West Africa into sharp relief in a way that is critical and innovative.

Adetona Omokanye is a visual storyteller based between Lagos, Nigeria, and Toronto, Canada. Over the past 5 years, his approach to photography is shaped by observations of happenings in his immediate environment.

This body of work interrogates how belief systems, tradition, and culture shape the way people dress. “Spiritually Fashionable” brings the couture of Egúngún a fancifully masked figure at the heart of the traditional religion and culture of the Yorùbá people of West Africa into sharp relief in a way that is critical and innovative.
While most people think of the Egúngún only in extraordinary, spiritual terms as the object of Yorùbá ancestor reverence, Omokanye juxtaposes it with regular African models provoking his audience to visualize the ‘masquerade’ as a fashion spectacle. Thinking of the Egúngún in this way forces us to critically re-evaluate our definitions of what constitutes indigenous fashion, native fabric, traditional style and local attire. It also compels us to consider the reality and mechanics of this kind of ‘esoteric fashion’ that is reserved for only a closed group. The series demonstrates how elements of culture, such as traditional religious practices and dominant notions of beauty, grooming, and embellishment, influence fashion styles.

We are thrilled to announce our latest curated collection: Landscape Sublime by Anastasia Samoylova!

"I search online copyright-free image libraries for various kinds of landscape pictures. Deserts. Glaciers. Tropics. Storms. Forests. Waterfalls. Mountains. These are collated, printed out, cut, folded, assembled as three dimensional studio sculptures, and then re-photographed. From immaterial data, to 2D print, to 3D environment and back to 2D print. The process is largely improvised, built up element by element, much the way we surf the Internet from one image to the next. The results are real world collages taking the form of still life tableau compositions of landscape types. Perspective is shattered in the manner of cubism or constructivism, each image contributing to the larger whole. But look closely and there’s also a world of imperfection here. Creases, props, dust, even reflections of the studio in which I work."

Anastasia Samoylova (b. 1984, USSR) is an American artist who moves between observational photography and studio practice.
Her work explores notions of environmentalism, consumerism and the picturesque. Recent exhibitions include Eastman Museum; Chrysler Museum of Art; The Photographer's Gallery; Kunst Haus Wien; HistoryMiami Museum; and Museum of Fine Arts, Le Locle.
In 2022 Samoylova was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize.

A recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, Meryl continues her photographic memoir begun in 1973 – a uniquely American story, sweet and sassy with a pinch of mystery. CLAMP represents her work.

💃 While frequenting NY's legendary discos, punk clubs, and Go-Go bars, Meryl captured hedonistic havens, celebrities, and revelers of the night, never revealing the large bodies of unseen work until retiring from her 31-year career as an NYC public school art teacher. 💃 Meryl Meisler was born in 1951 in the South Bronx and raised in North Massapequa, Long Island, NY. Inspired by Diane Arbus, Jacques Henri Lartigue, and her dad Jack and grandfather Murray Meisler, Meryl began photographing herself, family, and friends.
A recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, Meryl continues her photographic memoir begun in 1973 – a uniquely American story, sweet and sassy with a pinch of mystery. CLAMP represents her work.

💃 While frequenting NY's legendary discos, punk clubs, and Go-Go bars, Meryl captured hedonistic havens, celebrities, and revelers of the night, never revealing the large bodies of unseen work until retiring from her 31-year career as an NYC public school art teacher. Welcoming, informing, and helping exhibiting artists and guests
Checking invitations and tickets
Assisting guests with IRL minting
